So What Exactly Is Clarity Enhancement?
All real diamonds are a natural product made by the earth. Since diamonds are naturally created and not manmade, they normally have various types of imperfections in them which the industry calls “internal characteristics” or “inclusions”. There are many types of natural inclusions a diamond may generate during its development such as feathers, clouds, fissures, black carbon spots, and others.

The purpose of putting a natural diamond through the clarity enhancement process is to simply clean up the inclusions and produce a diamond that displays much more brilliance and fire.
Most inclusions prevent light from properly reflecting in a diamond because the light can’t pass through the inclusion. Once the clarity enhancement process is complete, the diamond will now be able to clearly reflect light and the diamond will then come to life with much more fire and brilliance.
The clarity enhancement process can be used to address several different types of inclusions that a natural diamond may have such as feathers, clouds, fissures, black carbon spots, and a few other. In some cases, a laser may be used for enhancement applications.
Many diamonds have small black spots that can easily be seen with the naked eye. These inclusions are natural black carbon deposits that oftentimes occur in a diamond. In this case, a laser and a chemical acid solution can be used to access the black inclusion and clean it out.
It is also quite common for diamonds to develop small white inclusions in them that look like little “feathers” or “clouds”. These types of inclusions are caused by natural displacement within the diamond as it goes through incredible amounts of stress and pressure while it develops underground. This type of inclusion can also look like a tiny white line and can be situated internally in a diamond or located on the surface areas or both. In this case, we use a clarity enhancement process whereby a special chemical solution is microscopically applied to the inclusion in order to essentially make the inclusion disappear. A laser may or may not be used or needed with these types of inclusions depending on the exact type of inclusion and its location. This same process may also be used on black carbon spots that were cleaned out. There are also other similar types of inclusions that this same clarity enhancement process can address and resolve. Ultrasonic cleaning, steam cleaning, detergents and hot water will not affect the clarity enhancement process. The main thing that may affect the enhancement is the direct heat of a torch that is burning at 1500 degrees or hotter (such as a jeweler’s torch). Boiling acids and ammonia based solutions may also affect the enhancement. In the unlikely event that something affects the enhancement process, your diamond will simply revert to its original condition prior to the enhancement while possibly showing some color augmentations. The warranty we provide is good for one (1) free re-enhancement service on any clarity enhanced diamond ring you originally purchased from Shay’s Diamonds. After the 1st free service is provided, any additional re-enhancement services performed on the same diamond would be charged at the reduced wholesale price of $125 per occurrence (service fees are subject to change without notice).
This warranty solely covers the clarity enhancement process and does not cover or warranty any other issues including but not limited to: lost, stolen, broken, missing, chipped or damaged stones, gems, diamonds, heads, prongs, clasps, links, settings and jewelry. This warranty does not cover ring sizing or other service issues.
This Lifetime Diamond Warranty for the re-enhancement process on clarity enhanced diamonds does not expire and shall be considered valid for the lifetime of the clarity enhanced diamond originally purchased from Shay’s Diamonds. This Lifetime Diamond Warranty is transferable and will remain valid under the same terms and conditions outlined herein provided the original receipt from Shay’s Diamonds is provided at the time of the re-enhancement.
